On April 15, the Week of Popularization of Blood Donation started in Russia. Events dedicated to the National Donor Day are traditionally held on April 20 in all Russian regions, they raise the problems of donation in Russia and exchange experiences. The occasion for the celebration was a very humane event — on April 20, 1832, a young St. Petersburg obstetrician Andrei Martinovich Wolf successfully performed the first blood transfusion in history for the first time.
